Lauren Smith and Scott Hengens had a beautiful, small ceremony at the Houmas House for just their family. Even though it was raining, we had a great time!
“Thank you so much for the time and energy you gave to me and Scott on Saturday,” says the bride. “You were unbelievable. You didn’t let the rain stop you, and you kept such a positive attitude! I have had so many people tell me what a great job you did and what a wonderful person you were to work with. I am so excited to see the pictures because I know they are going to be beautiful. I cannot thank you enough.”
Leger’s Catering provided the food for OP Baton Rouge’s opening event in September 2008, and we are so happy to be working with them again! These photos will be used to help them launch their new website.
It was hard to only look at the food while it was being photographed, but we were able to sample everything at the end of the night — and it was well worth the wait!
Competitive Cyclist is one of Bob’s favorite bicycle stores. It’s a 25,000 sf. space full of very fine bikes to ride. Located in North Little Rock, Arkansas, it’s a biker’s dream home. Photo by Bob Ocken
Jenn is super excited to have finally gotten some great shots of Baton Rouge’s own blues man Henry Gray! She had to go all the way to the Rhythm Room in Phoenix, AZ, but you won’t hear her complaining. The weather for the Phoenix Blues Blast Festival was great and music was in the air. Thanks to the Phoenix Blues Society for their wonderful hospitality!

Jenn still has available appointments for “Meet me at the Beach” in April. Please contact the Baton Rouge office to schedule a time. Portrait sessions are $325 and include the sitting fee, one fine art 8×10, and the ability to view and share your proofs online.
Jenn has just returned from her weeklong trip to Memphis, TN, for the International Blues Challenge. IBC is a four-day competition, this year with more than 150 acts from all over the world performing on Beale Street. The newest addition this year was the kid’s showcase, during which young blues musicians played in a safe, non-competitive environment. The photos below are of Sean Carney, IBC “Most Promising Guitar” winner in 2007, with a group of kids from various bands jamming after their showcase ended.
“I remember thinking there was no better place on earth for me to be than right here, encouraging those kids to play on,” says Jenn.
Many kudos to Jay and Joe at the Blues Foundation for creating such an all-around spectacular event! Best one yet!

Ocken Photography is once again proud to help produce the Out of the Box Bridal show in Chicago. The next show will be on February 19, 2009, at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and we are excited to be a part of it. Please join us! Stop by our area to talk and meet some truly great vendors in the Chicago area. And oh, did I mention the show is way cool, at the MCA, and completely free? See you there.
The studio is a great place to photograph until the weather gets warmer. This classic portrait of Georgia was made for her grandmother, who made the dress Georgia is modeling.

Here’s Bob, out for a bike ride on a cold, sunny day. He loves to get out in the beautiful Arkansas woods. This picture was made at a race in November.
“The pictures were beautiful. Thank you so much for capturing so many wonderful details. The colors were spectacular. Thanks again and can’t wait to use you again at another proud moment in our lives.”
