Although brides and grooms plan their big day just once, those of us who have spent some time in the wedding industry have tasted more cakes, sniffed more bouquets, and photographed more crazy dancing than we care to remember.
But this is good for you and it’s good for us too. This gives us a certain perspective. We can tell you that a midnight round of vodka and Red Bull shots may not be the best plan at your reception. Or that hand-making each and every one of those 450 special party favors may not be worth the damage to your eyesight and relationships with those you roped into helping you.
And, because we’ve been around a while, we know more useful stuff! Such as what venues are up and coming in our area, what’s hot this season, and what you can do to choose the very best professionals, which will help make your day as smooth and fun as possible.
In addition to imparting our wisdom (because who can’t get enough of that?), we at Ocken Photography want to talk about what it takes to be a professional wedding photographer, why it’s important to hire someone who’s an industry pro, and what does experience have to do with it anyway.
We’ll be chatting with some of our favorite people to work with and telling you what they have to say. We’ll be sharing different perspectives, as well as our own, in a series of blog posts over the summer and fall, so plan to check back regularly for the latest in wedding trends and insights for all aspects of your blessed event.
The 2014 seniors are excited about their portraits from Ocken Photography and so are we. Bob have been busy making all the graduates look amazing in there pictures for them so share with their family and friends. Meet Madison, a member of St. Mary’s Academy, we are quite fond of her and her beautiful photographs.
We all get lucky once in a while. (You’re feeling that way right now as you think about your partner to be, right?)
But you don’t want to leave things to chance when it comes to your wedding photographs. When the fanfare and wonder of the big day is over, your photographs will remain. Over time, they become your memories.
So on your one special day, it’s important to choose a photographer who’s already been down the aisle numerous times. Pick someone who’s prepared for (and even thrives on!) the pressure that comes with the just-happening-once joy of a wedding.
After years of photographing ceremonies and receptions of all sizes and styles, Ocken Photography has the knowledge, creativity, and quick-thinking poise under pressure to make sure your memories and one-of-a-kind moments are expertly captured, without disrupting the emotion and flow of your celebration.

Every year I (Bob) volunteer my photography services to document the CARTI Kids having the time of their lives. These kids have all received treatment at CARTI for cancer. Some are still being treated and some have rods in there backs. When I mentioned that to a climbing guide, he about flipped out. I think we changed some hearts with our visit to the Horseshoe Canyon Ranch. To see all the wonderful photographs I took go to the CARTI Facebook page or request a link from me at email@example.com
We started our southern wedding season a bit early this year — thank you! — with a wedding in Chicago and Dallas. Congratulations to Lauren and Rob, who were married at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas. Their reception was held at the beautiful Marie Gabrielle Restaurant and Gardens. The couple lives and works in Dallas, we look forward to working with them throughout the years.

Professional + Personal = Perfect Wedding Day Photos
Bob was absolutely wonderful to work with. He’s very personable and wants to try and get to know the bride and groom and cater to your style. As a bride without much knowledge about the photography business and what “shots” I wanted, he knew how to capture it all and his suggestions were great. Overall, I was well pleased with the selection of proofs from the bridal portraits as well as the wedding day. He has a great demeanor and sense of humor that kept everyone light, yet also exerted initiative to keep things moving when taking group shots. With all the stress that can come with the wedding day, I knew that I didn’t have to worry about the photographer (being on time, getting the right shots, etc) which was a huge relief! I really liked that on the day of the wedding he took photos that told a story rather than still, posed pictures. The classic wedding photos of course were posed, but I loved the way he captured, smiles and body language, etc. when you weren’t looking. While the price was a bit out of our range, we understand why now (such great shots!) and realize that splurging on a photographer was totally worth it. I would definitely recommend Ocken Photography to anyone looking for a wedding photographer, I now understand why some call him “one of the best in the business.”

Bob Ocken loves to shoot brides! And nobody photographs brides like he does. Ocken Photography only creates a handful of these caliber portraits a year, why not make your portrait one of them? Bob’s clientele are some the best and most exclusive brides in Arkansas and around the country. Bob says, ” I love pushing the boundaries of my creativity and to me this portrait feels like it was shot in the Caribbeans. But it was shot using only one flash in very exotic backyard in central Arkansas, no flight necessary.” Enjoy!
Check out the brand new redesigned Ordu Gold time trial bike. With new ergonomic and aerodynamic upgrades you can go as fast as it looks. Bob and Ocken Photography have been working with Orbea for close to a year now. “I have one of the best jobs ever!” — Enjoy!
Chicago Style Weddings talked with Chris for an article in their current issue about how to hire a photographer. It’s on page 376 (378 in the digital version). “It is also very important that a couple know what style they want — traditional, journalistic, commercial, or a style that combines several elements, like my own fine art documentary approach,” Chris explains in the story. At Ocken Photography we pride ourselves on letting your day unfold while we make wonderful photographs without getting in your way. Click here to see if your wedding date is open.
